History

Trakya University was established on July 20, 1982, with the Decree Law No. 41. Trakya University initially consisted of the newly established Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Tekirdağ Faculty of Agriculture, Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Natural Sciences, Institute of Health Sciences, Edirne Vocational School, Çanakkale Vocational School, Kırklareli Vocational School, the Faculty of Medicine established by transferring the affiliation of İstanbul University Edirne Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture established by converting the Edirne State Academy of Engineering and Architecture into a faculty, the Edirne School of Education established by renaming the Edirne Education Institute, the Çanakkale School of Education established by renaming the Çanakkale Education Institute, and the Tekirdağ Vocational School affiliated with the Tekirdağ Faculty of Agriculture.

  • - Faculty of Health Sciences and Keşan Yusuf Çapraz School of Applied Sciences in 2009,

were established.
 
 Additionally:
  • - The School of Education was converted into the Faculty of Education in 1992,
  • - The Faculty of Arts and Sciences was divided into the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Letters in 2010,
  • - The Faculty of Architecture and Engineering was divided into the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Engineering in 2013,
  • - Şehit Ressam Hasan Rıza Fine Arts Vocational School was established in 2013, separated from Edirne Technical Sciences Vocational School,
  • - The School of Applied Sciences was converted into the Faculty of Applied Sciences in 2019,
  • - The School of Physical Education and Sports was converted into the Kırkpınar Faculty of Sports Sciences in 2020.

As a regional university, Trakya University; With the establishment of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University in 1992, Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University in 2006, and Kırklareli University in 2007, it has been training generations who embrace the past, understand the present and design the future in the light of reason, science and wisdom to our country and the world with 14 faculties, 5 institutes, 4 schools, 1 state conservatory, 10 vocational schools and 38 application-research centers within the borders of Edirne province.

The Founding, 1st and 2nd Term Rector of Trakya University is Prof. Dr. Ahmet Tarık Karadeniz. On August 6, 1992, Prof. Dr. Poyraz Ülger was appointed as the 3rd Term Rector, and Prof. Dr. Osman İnci was appointed as the 4th Term Rector on August 6, 1996, and the 5th Term Rector on August 6, 2000. Prof. Dr. Enver Duran was appointed as the 6th Term Rector on August 6, 2004, and the 7th Term Rector on August 6, 2008. On August 6, 2012, Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük was appointed as the 8th Term Rector. Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu, who was appointed as the 9th Term Rector of our University, took office on August 6, 2016, and was reappointed as the 10th Term Rector on August 14, 2020.

In accordance with the decision numbered 2024/290 in the Official Gazette dated August 16, 2024, and numbered 32634, published with the signature of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hatipler, who was appointed as the 11th Term Rector of Trakya University, took office on August 16, 2024.

New 4th ROSE HARVEST FESTIVAL HELD AT TRAKYA UNIVERSITY

The final matches and award ceremony of the Turkish Universities Judo Championship were completed with great excitement at the Kırkpınar Sports Sciences Faculty 75th Anniversary Sports Hall.
