The 4th Rose Harvest Festival, hosted by Trakya University Havsa Vocational School, was held with enthusiastic participation, through the collaboration of the Edirne Rose and Edirne Red Applied Research Center, Havsa Vocational School, and Havsa Municipality.
The event, organized to sustain and promote the Edirne rose, a significant cultural and economic asset of Edirne, featured vibrant scenes.
The festival was attended by Havsa District Governor Oğuzhan Aksoy, Trakya University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tan, Secretary-General İlyas İpek, Havsa Mayor Hüseyin Özden, Havsa Vocational School Director Dr. Hüseyin Erdaş, Director of Edirne Rose and Edirne Red Applied Research Center Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilgün Becenen, academic and administrative staff, and students.
In their opening speeches, Havsa Mayor Hüseyin Özden, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilgün Becenen, and Dr. Hüseyin Erdaş emphasized that the rose is not only a plant but also an ancient cultural symbol. They highlighted the importance of this festival in preserving the cultural heritage of the Edirne rose and enhancing its economic value.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tan mentioned the significance of the Edirne rose and stated that Trakya University is making intensive efforts to revive this value of the city, which is on the verge of disappearing. Tan noted that they established a rose garden in 2021 to raise awareness, and this initiative was quite effective. Following this initial example, Tan stated that other similar gardens began to be established, and they created a larger rose garden at the Balkan Campus.
In his speech, Havsa District Governor Oğuzhan Aksoy expressed that the Edirne rose is not only an economic product but also an important representative of cultural richness. Additionally, Aksoy stated that these kinds of events strengthen social solidarity.
Within the scope of the program, Ahmet Doğaner delivered a presentation titled "The Past, Present, and Future of Rose Cultivation in Turkey." Following the presentation, the Havsa Municipality Folk Dance Team's performance was greatly appreciated. The festival continued with activities such as a honeysuckle rhythm performance, marbling art workshop, basket weaving workshop, symbolic rose harvest, and rose oil extraction. Participants were offered rose sherbet and Turkish delight, and the event concluded with a photo shoot.
