RECTOR PROF. DR. ERHAN TABAKOĞLU DISCUSSED “LEADERSHIP” WITH STUDENTS FROM THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE

Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoglu, engaged in a conversation on “Leadership Competence” with the students from Faculty of Medicine in Dr. Ratip Kazancıgil Lecture hall.

Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoglu said: “A good doctor is a good leader.”

In his speech, giving information about his own education and academic life, Rector Prof. Dr. Tabakoglu remarked works done related to Trakya University and University Hospital. “A good doctor is a good leader.” said Prof. Dr. Tabakoğlu and added, “We are training you to be good leaders. You should be conscious of them and aspire to leadership tasks.”

“Most important four step of quality in works done is plan-do-check-act. It is also known as PDCA circle. The doctor listening to the patient, wants scrutinizing, examining, curing, and calling for a checkup is actually reflection of this circle to medical profession. When a system is established with these elements, it reveals a quality circle that seeing their mistakes in every time and generating a solution to it.” said Chancellor Tabakoğlu.

Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu added, “A good leader has the power of capable of arousing people and the society.”

Touching upon distinction between good leadership and management, Prof. Dr. Tabakoğlu continued his speech, “a good manager is a person who is skilled. However, a good leader has the power of capable of arousing people and the society in right way, or it is a capability of providing this cycle gently that is done without trashing, hurting people while changing anything. If a work is to be done, it is necessary to win people’s hearts. If a work is to be done, you must first take responsibility, so that people believe and trust it. The system established in this way is also will bring you success,” he said.

Rector Prof. Dr. Tabakoglu: “One of the basic elements of leadership is to provide trust, love and respect environment.”

Remarking one of the most important elements of being a good leader is to provide love and respect environment, Porf. Dr. Tabakoglu said, “in fact, leadership starts from yourself. First, you should be able to lead yourself, and then lead your family, and your environment and the society. We can state that the basic elements of leadership are as trust, love and respect environment. You certainly must be pioneer and be model in this process. In addition, it is related to your being a trustworthy, loveable and respected person. Wherever you go, it depends on you not to disappoint this respect and even to increase.”

“If you want to change anything in anywhere, first thing that you face with is resistance.” said Prof. Tabakoglu and emphasized that the way to remove this resistance is conviction, and this needs to deal by expressing well acquirements that will be acquired at the end of the work to be done.

Emphasizing the capability of critical decision-making is highly developed in doctors, Rector Tabakoglu, “Especially faced with the condition of losing the patient in emergency, it is crucial to do medical intervention rapidly and make critical decision. All of you are precious children and enlightened people of our country, never hesitate to take responsibility in this sense.” said.
