Trakya University in hosting students from within Turkey as well as many different regions of the Balkans has achieved a first with its internal dynamics. Founded about a year ago and established within the framework of transparent and participatory management policies of the University, the first meeting of “Student Senate” was held at the Balkan Congress Center.  In the first meeting of the senate attended also by the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu, the head of the Health Culture and Sports Department Head Yücel Kurtdere and students were also present. Stating that the plans to realize the Senate in a few universities could not be fully implemented or actively participated in the governing body, the Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu stated his hope to set an example for all other universities and added that “I am very pleased to be with you students on a historical day in the name of our university. Here, you come from different regions of our country and the Balkans. My belief that you will take responsibility increases one more time here, you are way ahead of us in many ways. You will enrich us with your shares, let's take the university together and take it to the horizon. During the senate the President of the Student Council of Trakya University Muhammed İkbal Balkis has also talked. After the speeches, in the Student Senate, which held its first meeting under the management of the Rector Prof.Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu, the ideas and the project of the students have been talked besides the swot analysis of Trakya University. In the Senate, which is expected to be convened every two months, students’ needs will be expressed and various project proposals will be presented and ideas will be declared on the agenda. This senate which is able to meet different ideas and opinions is made by the student council, representatives of student communities, international students, successful students in their courses, erasmus students and representatives of students with disabilities.
