Trakya University, which is one of the largest educational institutions in the Balkans, hosted an important meeting of the Balkan Universities Association and headed the meeting as a Secretary General and a Standing Member of the Board of Directors. The meeting of the Board of the Balkan Universities Association (BUA), the largest higher education association of the Balkans with 70 members, was held at the Rectorate Building of Trakya University. Rector of Trakya University Porf.Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu hosted the meeting, joined the President of the Union, Rector of Selanik Aristotales University . Prof.Dr. Pericles A. Mitkas, Former President, the Rector of the University of Tetova. Dr. Vullnet Ameti, next period President, the Rector of Bucharest University Prof.Dr. Mircea Dumitru and Trakya University Vice Rector for International Relations Prof. Dr. Cem Uzun, Director of Foreign Relations Research and Application Center, Assoc. Dr. Murat Türkyılmaz, International Relations Lect. Nurgül Sarsılmaz, Vice Rector for International Relations of Bucharest University Assoc. Dr. Sorin Costreie, Chief of Director at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Ilias Kitsas, Tetova University International Relations Officers Asst. Prof,. Dr. Agon Memeti and Asst. Prof. Dr. Faton Shabani. Trakya University Rector Prof.Dr.Erhan Tabakoğlu, stated that they have come together to talk about the works to be carried out for the further growth and development of the Balkan Universities Association and gave information about Trakya University's activities focused on the Balkans. President of the Association of Balkan Universities and Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Prof.Dr. Pericles A. Mitkas stated that Trakya University has made a very important effort and has accomplished successful works since the founding of the Union. While, the Rector of the University of Bucharest Prof.Dr. Mircea Dumitru said, “I believe that our common points are more than our differences. We must undertake efforts to strengthen our common points and develop the unity and the Balkans. All member universities should have full power to this union. As the University of Bucharest, we will continue to do our part. In our Presidency, we will call on universities in Romania to participate in the union”. The Rector of the University of Tetova Prof.Dr. Vullnet Ameti emphasized the importance of joint work and stated that he believes that the importance and value of the Union will increase even more with the increase of the works. At the meeting, the steps to be taken in order to increase the cooperation among the member universities of the Balkan Universities Association, a common Balkan Research Institute to be established and the issue of introducing at least one Balkan language learning obligation and the establishment of a common academic journal which can teach in many different fields in this institute were discussed. After the meeting, Rector of Trakya University Prof.Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu and guest rectors, visited Selimiye Mosque and the Health Museum Sultan II. Bayezid Complex.
