Trakya University in cooperation with Tekirdağ office of Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) held the “ 1. Balkan Women Workshop”. In the Footsteps of Our Heritage: 1. Balkan-Turkish Women Workshop was held in Edirne on 16th February 2019, hosted by Trakya University. The event, which started with introductory films of KADEM and Trakya University, continued by reading of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wife Emine Erdoğan's message about the workshop. After the talks of KADEM Tekirdag Representative and Workshop Organizing Committee Member Zeynep Şentop Şahin, Dr. Nilgün Tabakoğlu, President of Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) Salih Okur Gümrükçüoğlu, Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu said that “The fact that this meeting is here today is very meaningful and very important. The largest campus of Trakya University was named “Balkan”, also the other two campuses are called “Macedonia” and “Kosovo”. 3,000 Balkan students are studying here, while we educated and graduated 1,658 Balkan students and so far we have 315 MSc and 59 PhD students from the Balkans. We carry out various organizations about Bulgaria, Macedonia and Kosovo, the Balkans. Today, there are 206 universities in Turkey, but the Trakya University is first one to come up to mind when you think of the Balkans”.
While Grand National Assembly of Turkey’s Chairman Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şentop said that “ Today we are at the beginning of the 21st century, but after the 20th century full of failures, humanity is in search of a new exit. At this point, the legacy of our heritage left to us is very important. The most important of these is that if a culture and civilization gives hope to the people who live outside their geography area, and they continue to be a center of attraction for them, that civilization is in the period of progress, rise and development”.
Also in the workshop Müferrah Şinik (Member of Parliament of the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo and Deputy of Parliament), Salih Murat (Member of the Constitutional Court of Macedonia), Rıfat Feyziç (Mufti of Montenegro) and Dr. Pervin Hayrullah (Western Thrace Turkish Women's Platform, BAKEŞ) took part as a speaker. The workshop continued during the day with two separate sessions under the headings of “The Challenges of Being a Woman in the Balkans and the Importance of Non-Governmental Organizations” and ”Protection of National and Spiritual Values in the Balkan Turks in Multiculturalism, Problems Encountered in the Transfer of Family Values and Solutions”.
The workshop was attended by participants from 10 different countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Greece. During the workshop, the main issue was about the Turkish communities in providing solutions to the problems experienced in this region, and the importance of civil society organizations was underlined. In the last part of the meeting, Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu gave a presentation titled “Trakya University, the Balkans and the Future”, and shared important information about the university's studies focused on the Balkans.
OUR UNIVERSITY IS HOSTING ANOTHER IMPORTANT CONFERENCE
The 6th International AGBIOL Conference has begun. The opening ceremony of the International Conference on Agriculture, Biology, and Life Sciences (AGBIOL), organized in cooperation with Trakya University and the International Researchers Association, was held with great participation.
