Trakya University Faculty of Letters, Department of History of Art has undertaken a social responsibility project that aims to educate and raise awareness among young individuals about the importance of preserving history and culture.
The project involved a trip to Edirne City Museum for the five year-old children of Denizciler class at Özen Nursery and Day Care Center, accompanied by their teacher Selin Vardar. Bilal Sarigül and İdil Güler, graduates of the the Department of Art History, supervised the young children and highlighted the significance of historical artifacts.
After the museum visit, Başak Seven and Tan Şevik, 3rd year students of the Department of Art History, performed their puppet show “Zeliş and Aliş” for the kids. The little kids enjoyed the play written by Başak Seven about the joy and meaning of April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children's Day.
In the last part of the program, the children danced to the songs performed by Harun Filiz, a first-year student of the Department of History of Art, on his guitar, and experienced the joy of April 23rd.
The event, which brought together the museum, preschool children, university students and academics, ended with the presentation of flags and badges to the children.
Stating the event, Prof. Dr. Gülgün Yılmaz, Head of the Department of Art History, said: “we organized this event in order to contribute to the 23 April enthusiasm of our children, to enable them to recognize the values of our country and culture, and also to create an awareness of protecting these values. I would like to thank our students Bilal Sarigül, İdil Güler, Başak Seven, Tan Şevik and Yağmuz Cetiz for making our children have a pleasant 23 April. I would like to thank our academicians, Özen Nursery staff and Edirne City Museum Directorate for supporting this important social responsibility project. As the Department of History of Art, we will continue to carry out new social responsibility projects with various segments of society, with the theme of history and culture.”
