Trakya University Medical Faculty, Department of Family Medicine held the "8. International Trakya Family Medicine Congress” in Trakya University. The opening of the congress was attended by Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Ahmet Muzaffer Demir, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Ali Kemal Özdemir, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Sedat Üstündağ, Edirne Provincial Health Director Prof. Dr. Ali Cengiz Kalkan, World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) European Elected President Dr. Mehmet Ungan, Turkey Family Doctors Association President Prof. Dr. Esra Saatçi, Greece General Practitioners Association (ELEGEİA) President Bodosakis Merkouris, Trakya University Medical Faculty, Department of Family Medicine and Turkey Family Medicine Qualification Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Hamdi Nezih Dağdeviren, and many medical specialists from abroad.
In the opening of the Congress, Prof. Dr. Hamdi Nezih Dağdeviren made a speech, where he said that “This year, we are proud to organize the eighth of this very important congress, which we have brought to the international level attended by both our country and abroad. We have chosen our main themes from the philosophical titles and this year's title is “Being a Family Doctor”. Next year, I would like to announce in this congress that we will apply the theme where we are going to discuss how to raise the family medicine in a world where people are applying more to the Internet.
During the congress, World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) European President Dr. Mehmet Ungan also made a speech, where he pointed that “WONCA Europe, the regional branch of the World Family Doctors Organization (WONCA), provides leadership and representation in academic and scientific studies on behalf of Family Medicine. WONCA Europe supports and develops the discipline of Family Medicine to provide high standards of education, research and treatment for patients and communities and to standardize them”.
At the end of the congress, in his speech the Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu said “We are pleased to see over 300 participants from 5 different countries at our University and Edirne. We serve the Balkans both in education and health. With our 1.100 bed university hospital with complete departments, our Provincial Health Director Dr. Ali Cengiz Kalkan also strives for international patient traffic. Our Faculty of Medicine was accredited and now our Faculty of Health Sciences has been accredited and with all our strength we will work for our region and for Turkey”.
During the Congress, Turkey Family Doctors Association President Prof. Dr. Esra Saatçi, and Greece General Practitioners Association (ELEGEİA) President Bodosakis Merkouris also made speeches.
